September 2017

Friday of Labor Day weekend we packed up the van and went to Costco to get gas before heading to the cabin for the weekend. Unfortunately a large moving truck tried to squeeze between the 2 lanes pumping gas when he realized they didn't sell diesel fuel and he totaled our car. He started turning before the trailer had cleared our car and the one next to us and caused quite a bit of damage. I laid on my horn to alert him to what he was doing but he still had to back up or keep going forward which caused even more damage. My door and the sliding door on the driver's side wouldn't open at all and our headlight, bumper and mirror were all hanging off the car.

The other car was a newer explorer and it had damage on the back side. So after dealing with the police and getting everything taken care of we slowly drove back home to park the van and piled ourselves and all of our stuff into Matt's car and left for the cabin. We didn't leave until 9pm so it was a late night but we didn't let it stop us from going up there.

The next day we went to Sundance and decided to do the ski lift ride to the top. At the top they had a restaurant where we had ice cream.

September 2, 2017

We walked around for a little bit before heading back down.

We enjoy taking walks in the evening at the cabin. It's always so pretty and quiet and you always get to see deer.

Matt had been working on this puzzle at the cabin for a couple of weekends and stayed up (way to) late to finish it. I don't last too long on puzzles so he did most of the work. We had bought it from Goodwill and unfortunately one of the pieces was missing. At least it was on the edge instead of right in the middle though.

September 3, 2017

We originally were planning on staying at the cabin through Monday but with the car situation we needed to figure out we left on Sunday and made it in time for church. Matt found this picture in the library from 2009 the year we moved into the ward. Kaleb was so little!

September 3, 2017

On the actual holiday we had dinner at my parents and played croquet and bocci ball in the backyard. That morning Matt and I also went car shopping and bough a Toyota Highlander. We really needed a 2nd car and we weren't sure if a rental car would be covered by insurance because there was conflicting information between the guys insurance and Budget if he would even be covered so we didn't dare get one in case we were stuck with the bill. We seem to have the worst luck with cars and so even though we didn't want a car payment right now we're hoping this car will last us a long time. And I did a pretty good job at getting the price down to what we thought was fair. :)

September 4, 2017

I love seeing Kaleb's art that he brings home from art class. He's always been good at art and drawing.

Olivia had to wait a couple weeks to start preschool but the day finally came. Being an October birthday she is one of the older ones in her class. She was excited and not scared at all. She's even doing an online preschool called Upstart that she does on the computer 5 days a week. It's crazy to see how well she can read already and she's not even in kindergarten yet. When my boys went into kindergarten they just wanted you to know your letters and hopefully most of the sounds, now you're almost expected to be starting to read, it's crazy!

September 8, 2017

Olivia wanted this bat mask from the dollar store to go with her bat girl costume she had already picked out from Costco for Halloween.

In the morning Matt went outside and realized someone had siphoned gasoline out of the van. I guess they figured we didn't need it with the condition the van was in. And since we were filling up when it happened there was plenty of gas in the tank. Grr...I hate theives.

September 8, 2017

The kids finished up another soccer season. I only got to see 2 of Ashton's games because of how they lined up with Olivia's and with coaching her I had to be to her games. He had lots of goals though!

September 9, 2017

Olivia, or should I say Moana had her face painted at the school carnival. She loves getting her face painted any chance she can.

September 11, 2017

We had to run to the library and she had fun putting on a puppet show for me.

I saw this on Matt's nightstand and had a laugh. He had been saving up for some game on the xbox and had finally saved up enough money and left it there for Matt.

September 13, 2017

I had fun coaching Olivia's team this season. At this age it's more about keeping the interested in the game and focused on the ball than skill but I still enjoy running around with them.

September 14, 2017

Matt and I decided to hike up to Diamond Fork (Fifth Water) Hot Springs up Spanish Fork Canyon for date night. It's a 2.5 mile hike to the springs but it went pretty quick and was mostly flat the whole time. You could tell you were getting close when you could smell the sulphur from the stream. There were quite a few people there already and so we ended up in a shallow area where we were able to lay down and enjoy the hot water. As we were leaving it was getting really crowded with college aged kids and hiking back to the car we passed more than 50+ people headed to the springs. It's not that big so I'm not sure where they were all going to squeeze into but I was glad we got there early and were leaving when we were.

September 15, 2017

Matt went with Olivia on her field trip to the Children's Museum. I love that he gets to go on field trips too because it's always fun being able to spend 1 on 1 time with kids.

September 16, 2017

She made a crazy face in all of these selfies they took.

I bet you can guess which car is Olivia's? :)

After they had lunch and went to a park to play before dad had to go back to work.

More random selfies this time Olivia had a friend with her.

September 16, 2017

This blanket fort was in Ashton's room and neither of them actually lasted on the floor to sleep. Hard wood floors even with a rug just isn't as comfortable as carpet is.

September 19, 2017

School pictures for the boys came and they both looked very handsome.

Matt went with Olivia on her field trip to the aquarium.

September 27, 2017

This Saturday it was rainy at the cabin but we still enjoyed walking around outside. My parents and sister came up to have dinner with us.

August 2017

When we came up to go to bed Olivia had snuck into our room and fell asleep in our bed.

August 7, 2017

Matt went with Kaleb for a couple of the days to his weeklong camp at Camp Steiner. They did some fun hikes even though it rained off and on the whole time they were there.

August 8, 2017

They had an early morning sunrise hike that Matt and Kaleb went on and they loved the views. Matt was even able to call me from the top of the mountain since they had cell service.

August 9, 2017

This was the group that went on the hike. Kaleb was the only one from our ward that went.

Matt said the fog in the morning was really pretty over the lake.

Olivia is still our crafty girl. She loves painting and she wanted me to paint with her. I attempted to paint some flowers on a canvas with watercolors.

August 9, 2017

After a quick summer rain storm I walked outside to see this double rainbow.

August 9, 2017

Olivia really wanted to catch a fish, which is hard to do without a hook on your line. :) But she still likes trying and is pretty good at casting. The boys enjoyed playing in the river.

August 12, 2017

Kaleb makes pretty elaborate blanket forts. This one had multiple "rooms" and they slept for a couple nights in the fort.

August 14, 2017

Olivia was showing me her "room" which she even decorated with picture frames and plants.

Olivia had really been wanting to go to a salon to get her hair done since I always have cut it myself. We went to a lady my aunt goes to and she trimmed her hair and gave her an updo. Olivia had requested pink hair and the lady was nice enough get get pink extensions ahead of time to put in her hair.

August 18, 2017

That evening was our neighborhood party where the fire truck comes and we have a big slip 'n slide on the hill. The kids spend hours sliding down the hill. Olivia loves her friend Zara.

August 18, 2017

Kaleb started 8th grade! I still can't believe it and yet as I type this he's almost finished with his 8th grade year. He's in 9th grade honors math, honors english and has enjoyed taking wood working classes and a cooking class. He always gets straight A's and works hard.

August 21, 2017

Ashton started 4th grade and has Ms. Dewyea again as a teacher. He is a hard worker and likes to help the teacher out. They have a pet chinchilla which we took home one weekend. He also always gets straight A's and is a smart kid!

We celebrated the first day of school with ice cream and dole whips from Macey's.

August 21, 2017

Olivia gets lots of use from her old Halloween costumes since she likes dressing up all the time.

August 22, 2017

I showed Olivia how to do filters on my phone through instagram and it became her new favorite thing to do.

August 23, 2017

There are random pictures like this one on my phone occasionally and I love seeing what she comes up with.

August 28, 2017

Olivia wanted to take a "nap" but it didn't last long before she changed her mind.

August 30, 2017

Ashton is really good at soccer and loves the kids he plays with. They take it pretty serious and really try hard to win.
